On the road with NomadLab 2019

friendly shadow is the title of the expedition I go on aboard the mobile art space NomadLab: an artistic journey through the whole of Switzerland, from Saint Gallen to Geneva. For two weeks, NomadLab is mobile manufacturing facility, exhibition room and abode at the same time. By entering a dialogue with the environment at several stops and by drawing, painting and performing in the public sphere, the exhibition develops progressively. The stops chosen for the exhibition are interim uses: urban vacant lots or industrial wasteland transformed into new spaces of exchange by civil society and cultural commitment. As urban meeting points and temporary centers of creativity, those places offer ideal premises for the communication platform NomadLab, which aims to facilitate a low-threshold access to art.

At each stop, an event takes place where Lika Nüssli and a guest musician – Marc Jenny (bass) or Roland Bucher (noise table) – collaborate and interact: from various elements such as drawings and cloth sculptures, an installation evolves around the musician during the live set music. This immediate exchange between the place, the artist and the musician develops with every stop and manifests itself in a new form.

NomadLab is a mobile art platform – nomadic, offensive, experimental. A converted postbus offers space and framework for exhibitions, workshops, events and interventions. On explorative journeys through the twilight zones between art and everyday life, NomadLab promotes the public visibility of professional cultural work – removed from classic contexts and transferred to places where people follow their daily routine. Fluctuating between social sculpture, traveling museum and project space, NomadLab creates temporarily installed places of exchange and explores the potential of socio-cultural habitats in the public sphere.
